MJF Pays Homage To WWE Icon At AEW All In

MJF AEW

MJF represented America in a big way at AEW All In and it reminded some fans of a former wrestling legend.

At AEW All In London, Maxwell Jacob Friedman defended the American Championship against Will Ospreay.

It was a match with a lot on the line because not only did Friedman take the title from Ospreay, but he renamed the AEW International Title into the AEW American Championship.

During his entrance at All In London, MJF was wearing pro-American ring attire as a way to upset the fans at London’s Wembley Stadium. Friedman was wearing a long jacket that was in the USA red, white & blue colors. When Max entered the ring, there was a giant American flag that had his face in place of the 50 stars on the flag.

As for his wrestling gear, MJF wore some red, white and blue trunks that gave some flashbacks. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful tweeted photos of WCW/WWE legend Lex Luger wearing similar tights in a side-by-side photo with Max. Luger wore those kinds of tights during his summer of 1993 run that lasted over a year when he was an American hero of sorts in WWE.

Lex Luger saw the post and commented with this witty comment.

“I thought I may have noticed a pair of my tights missing the other day.”

While MJF’s outfit got people talking, he failed in his attempt to retain the American Championship because Ospreay beat him with the Tiger Driver 91 for the pinfall win.

MJF Also Paid Tribute To Triple H Earlier This Year

Whether MJF wore the red, white & blue to pay tribute to Luger or simply to get heat with the fans is unknown for now, but MJF did pay tribute to WWE Hall of Famer Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

This was confirmed by MJF in a recent interview when he called Triple H the greatest ever. At AEW Double or Nothing this past May, Max wore a blue/black jean jacket similar to what Triple H wore in January 2002 after coming back from a long layoff.

“Oh, my god. The greatest ever! When I was a kid … so, I was born in ’96, so I vividly remember that [Triple H’s return from injury at Madison Square Garden]. That was my arena as a kid, and I thought, ‘All right. I’m returning from a serious injury.’ Every other f**king mark/nerd in wrestling does cosplay gear, and I was like, I’m gonna do it one time, and one time only.”

“I put my own spin on it. I put Burberry all over it, MJF, my lion. But, yeah, it was a bit of an homage, for sure. That was my childhood.”
