How Does MJF Feel About Never Facing John Cena
MJF has earned several accolades in the wrestling world.
But even he knows that he will never be able to get inside the squared circle with John Cena now that the 17-time WWE Champion is retired.
While speaking recently on Mostly Sports, Maxwell Jacob Friedman was asked about missing out on an in-ring clash with Cena. Rather than trash-talk or brush it off as just another feud, Maxwell stuck to the point, admitting that it was indeed a missed opportunity.
Yes, absolutely. I think that there is a different world where that match would have happened. Unfortunately, it’s not this one.
He also highlighted his numerous run-ins with Cena outside their respective promotions, stating that he was kind and complimentary to him.
I’ve had so many incredible run-ins with John where we’ve shot the s**t. He’s an incredible guy. He watches our product. He’s seen my stuff. He was very complimentary.”
Obviously, I’m super complimentary to him.
MJF also admitted that at one point in his life, John Cena was his favorite wrestler.
I’ve said it before in other interviews, but before CM Punk, my favorite wrestler growing up as a kid was John Cena. He was a fathead on my wall in my bedroom. So I’d wake up, salute the OG, and then get ready for school. [H/T: Ringside News]
MJF Wins AEW World Championship At Worlds End
After missing TV appearances for 3 months, MJF returned on AEW Dynamite during the December 20 episode.
While at it, he inserted himself into the World Championship match by cashing in his Casino Gauntlet contract, turning the bout into a four-way clash.
In the early minutes, Maxwell found himself away from action. But once he physically entered, he ensured his strikes hurt every opponent.
At one point, he was put in the Coquina Clutch by Samoa Joe that led to him passing out, only for Swerve Strickland to force break the submission.
The closing minutes witnessed Adam Page attak Joe with multiple Buckshot Lariats. Friedman saw the opportunity and interjected to take out page.
He then struck the champion with the Heat Seeker to secure the pinfall and his second AEW World Championship.
