Mixed Reaction Backstage To WWE Evolution 2 Plans
Some have expressed caution about the return of WWE Evolution.
During the latest Saturday Night’s Main Event special on May 24, WWE announced the return of the all-female Premium Live Event, Evolution.
The event is set to take place on July 13 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
To date, the first and only all-female Evolution event was held in October 2018, with a packed card full of current stars and WWE legends. Since then, fans and even WWE stars themselves have called on the company to bring back the event, and it seems those calls have finally been heard.
Mixed Reaction To WWE Evolution
While the announcement was met with a largely positive reaction from fans, the feeling within the company is a little different.
According to a new report, Fightful Select, the vast majority of the women’s roster only found out about the show when it was announced during Saturday Night’s Main Event. There were some exceptions, with some top talent and one unnamed legend already aware of the show. The legend in question could appear at the event.
Once the news settled, the reaction was decidedly mixed backstage. Some understand what the show means, but “took exception” to the “curtain call” at the end of the action in 2018, noting that the men would never be asked to do something similar.
Another highlighted that if the show does poorly against a Beyonce concert scheduled in the same place, this will be used as a reason to never run it again.
In addition, one top talent felt there are already too many PLEs and is unsure what they’ll be doing.
But on the flip side, there was more excitement from one veteran who hoped that the show would give more opportunities to underused talent. They also hoped that legends would be integrated in a way to help boost younger talent.
In general, there’s less excitement around the show than back in 2018, but that is largely to do with the company’s booking of the women’s division than the show itself.
