Miscommunication Led To Bizarre WWE SmackDown Finish
A new report has given an update on an unfortunate botch on WWE SmackDown.
On SmackDown, Bayley and Lyra Valkyria booked their spot at WrestleMania by becoming the number one contenders for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. The pair battled through a lengthy gauntlet match to earn a shot at Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.
Elsewhere, Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest got into a wild brawl, as did Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair.
Report Gives Insight Into WWE Botch
According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the clunky finish to the match between Chelsea Green wasn’t what was originally planned. On the show, Vega defeated Green in a little over a minute via count-out, a moment that left fans and just about everyone involved confused.
As noted by several backstage sources, Green didn’t hear the referees count as it approached ten meaning the finish was actually totally legitimate. By the time the count got to ten, it was felt there was no option other than to call for the bell.
One person believed that when Green threw Vega back into the ring she expected the count to be restarted. As a result, she began arguing with fans and getting into it with announcers before the referee called for the bell.
While the match was expected to last “a few” more minutes there was no heat on Green or Vega, with the incident chalked up as one of those things. The mistake was put down to a simple miscommunication.
