Miro Admits He Was “Happy” To Be Fired By WWE
Current AEW star Miro has explained the reasons why his reaction to being let go by WWE was joy rather than despair.
Known to fans during his time in WWE as Rusev, he had a reasonably successful run which many would argue should have gone on to greater things with the company. He had a reign as United States Champion, and had a memorable feud with John Cena which also led to him creating a special moment by making his entrance at WrestleMania 31 on a tank.
His time with the company came to an unexpected end when budget cuts were the reason given for his release in April 2020.
Having now re-emerged in AEW as Miro, he has held the TNT Championship and is currently feuding with The House Of Black.
In a discussion with Renee Paquette on The Sessions, Miro spoke about how pleased he was when he got the news that WWE were releasing him from his contract.
I was really happy when I got fired [from the WWE], I was delighted… I was elated. I kind of lashed out for about five seconds just because the timing was bad with COVID and everything, plus my wife still being there [in the WWE] I was concerned. But I was happy, I knew I was going to be fine because I knew I am good.
Continuing on, Miro discussed how his initial aims when he knew he was gone from WWE were to appear for AEW and NJPW.
Yeah, I wanted AEW and New Japan for sure. I love wrestling, as much as I want to do movies and I try to do that as well, professional wrestling is so much fun there is nothing like it… but the backstage bullsh*t politics is just *sighs*.
Miro also opened up on how some leaked photos cost him an Intercontinental Championship run.
