Mina Shirakawa Set To Extend AEW Stay
Mina Shirakawa looks set to stay in the AEW fold.
On the November 16th edition of Collision, Mina Shirakawa returned to an AEW ring for the first time since August. In her comeback, Shirakawa got the better of Harley Cameron in a match set up on the previous episode of Dynamite. The star initially returned to the company at Dynamite Grand Slam to celebrate with Mariah May.
During the show, Shirakawa again reunited with long-time friend May, after the AEW Women’s World Champion retained her title with a win over Anna Jay. As a result of the loss, Jay can’t challenge for the title again while May is the champion.
Given her high-profile role with STARDOM, fans are already wondering whether this AEW run will be any more than a fleeting visit.
Tony Khan Wans Mina Shirakawa To Stay
During the media call ahead of AEW Full Gear, Tony Khan was asked about Shirakawa and how long she’ll be with the company. The AEW boss said he’s optimistic he can keep hold of the star while talking up his relationship with STARDOM.
“I am optimistic to keep Mina with us a lot. Mina Shirakawa fits in very well in AEW and she has been a great part of the show. We’d like to have her here as much as possible.
Coming up after Full Gear, I’m optimistic that Mina Shirakawa can join us more frequently and we’ll see what that can be as far as her schedule with AEW and STARDOM simultaneously. We have a great relationship with STARDOM now and I love working with STARDOM, Mr. Okada, and the great Bushiroad executives.
Mina Shirakawa is a great star for STARDOM and also, now, a great star for AEW in America and all over the world. I feel Mina Shirakawa adds a lot to AEW and I would like her to stay indefinitely, more regularly, and be with us more frequently.
Thankfully, STARDOM is open to that and they’ve been very kind about opening her schedule up to us. I expect to see Mina Shirakawa a lot in AEW going forward.”
Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa are set to hold a Champagne Championship Celebration at Full Gear on November 23rd. There’s been a great deal of speculation that this could be the moment Toni Storm — or a new version of her character at least, will return to the fold.
On November 20th, Storm announced she was leaving pro wrestling behind, however, Tony Khan claims reports of her demise have been greatly exaggerated.
