Mick Foley Names Greatest Wrestling Match He’s Ever Seen Live

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has revealed the greatest wrestling match he has ever witnessed in person, naming the iconic WrestleMania 13 showdown between Bret Hart and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Speaking at the For The Love Of Wrestling convention, Mick Foley was asked to identify the best match he had seen live. Without hesitation, he pointed to the legendary encounter from 1997.

“In person, oh man. I’d say Austin and Bret Hart at WrestleMania 1997,”

Foley stated. The match took place on 23 March 1997 at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, Illinois. A No Disqualification Submission contest, it featured UFC fighter Ken Shamrock as the special guest referee. The bout is widely regarded as one of the greatest in WWE history, particularly for its famous double turn. Hart, previously a beloved figure, emerged as a villain, while Austin, despite losing, gained immense fan support and solidified his status as a future megastar.

Although not the main event, the clash between Hart and Austin stole the show and played a crucial role in defining WWE’s Attitude Era. One of the match’s most enduring images is Austin’s face, covered in blood, as he refused to submit to Hart’s Sharpshooter.

The contest earned universal praise from fans and critics alike, receiving a rare five-star rating from Dave Meltzer. Its impact on the industry was undeniable, helping to shape WWE’s direction in the years that followed.

Mick Foley spoke about an AEW star he believes has limitless potential and named none other than Will Ospreay. Foley spoke about how his daughter spoke with Ospreay on the Jericho Cruise and that ever since he saw Ospreay and Ricochet on the AEW Dynamite 5th anniversary show he has been very impressed with him.
