Michael Cole Signs Brand New WWE Deal
Michael Cole isn’t going anywhere.
After beginning his broadcast career working for CBS Radio, Michael Cole signed with WWE in 1996 and he’s been an ever-present on television since.
Over the following 28 years, Cole has worked as a backstage interviewer, lead commentator, and briefly even a wrestler, but not always with fans behind him. However, with Triple H in charge of the main roster and several of Vince McMahon’s restrictions lifted, Cole has been a man reborn.
As such, the veteran is more popular than ever as he continues to provide the soundtrack for the biggest moments in WWE’s new era, and it seems that won’t be changing for a long time to come.
Michael Cole Extends WWE Stay
During an appearance on the Impaulsive podcast hosted by Logan Paul, Cole revealed he’s not long signed a new contract to keep him with the company for several years.
“Just signed a brand new contract with the company. So I’m going to be here for a number of years. But the company really made me feel, you know, really for the first time that I was really important to this place.”
Cole went on to explain that while he’s thought about walking away from WWE, a conversation with his wife reaffirmed his decision to stay.
“The paycheck is part of it but the new regime had a lot to do with it. When I went to sign the new deal, I sat down with my wife and I’m 58 years old now and I’m like, ‘They want to get me to retirement age.’ And this is because we had talked about me getting out of this for a long while now just because of the travel and everything else.
She was like, ‘You got to do it. This is your legacy. You’re going to be miserable if you don’t finish this up the way you want to finish it up.’ And she was great about it. So, she was one hundred percent on board with it and so I’m here for a while.”
Later in the episode, Cole noted he would be staying with the company for another eight years.
Elsewhere, Michael Cole opened up about his sometimes complicated relationship with Vince McMahon. The veteran commentator said he’ll never disparage McMahon despite his “personal issues” as he gave him the career he has today.
Those personal issues include multiple sexual abuse scandals which have seen the former Chairman named in two separate lawsuits.
