WWE Hall Of Famer Praises Michael Cole – “Our Generation’s Jim Ross”
Michael Cole was praised heavily by a WWE Hall of Famer recently, who had some high praise for Smackdown’s lead announcer.
For the past 26 years, Michael Cole has been featured regularly on WWE television. He started out as a backstage interviewer, then he called some matches occasionally and in the 2000s, he became the main play-by-play voice on Smackdown.
Eventually, Michael Cole took over the main play-by-play role on Monday Night Raw as well and he was in that spot from the late 2000s through the 2010s.
When Smackdown moved to FOX in October 2019, WWE moved Cole back to the blue brand because Smackdown is the most-watched weekly WWE TV show in the world. As the “Voice of WWE,” the company wants Cole on the show with the biggest audience.
In addition to his Smackdown announcing role, Michael Cole also calls WWE Premium Live Events like WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam and everything else along with Corey Graves.
On a recent episode of his “Oh… You Didn’t Know” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg praised Cole by comparing him to the legendary WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross.
“He’s still there today doing it man. And doing it better — I’d say this is our generation’s Jim Ross … Michael Cole’s the deal. He’s the voice of the WWE, no doubt.”
While many fans may not want to compare Cole to JR, who is beloved by WWE fans, the longevity that Cole has had in WWE has been very impressive.
Michael Cole also has another role in WWE as a Senior Producer for announcers in the company that has a major say in putting together the commentary team as well as hiring or letting go members of the team.
