Michael Cole Breaks Silence On “Strange Situation” Around Corey Graves

Corey Graves WWE

Corey Graves is working to iron out his issues with WWE.

Back in January, Corey Graves publicly called out WWE for dropping him from SmackDown.

In the rant, Graves said he was no longer famous enough to do his own job, seemingly in response to Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett becoming the commentary team on SmackDown with Michael Cole and Pat McAfee being installed on Raw.

Despite posting that he’d got a “lot to say” on the matter, Graves was absent from multiple tapings before returning to work on January 21. During the NXT taping, Graves opened the show by saying he was “right where he needs to be.”

WWE Didn’t Agree With Corey Graves

During an appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, Michael Cole was asked about the tension between Graves and WWE. The veteran admitted it was a “strange situation,” before noting that whatever his long-time commentary partner was trying to do, WWE didn’t see things the same way.

“That’s a strange situation. I love Corey. Love him to death. I still don’t understand all the dynamics of it. I know that he said something on social media that was pretty critical of the company. He tried to explain to everyone that he was trying to generate some interest and maybe hype up a storyline.

I don’t think the company saw it that way. I think him and the company are working that out. I love Corey to death. He is an unbelievable commentator. Beside [Pat] McAfee, he is probably the best partner I’ve ever had,”

During the same conversation, Cole confirmed he signed a new contract with WWE in 2024 that will keep him with the company for “a number of years.”
