Mercedes Mone’s Future Unknown Admits NJPW Official

Mercedes Mone

An NJPW official has admitted they’re not sure what’s next for Mercedes Mone.

The star formerly known as Sasha Banks hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Willow Nightingale back on May 25th. With victory, Nightingale secured the NJPW STRONG Women’s Title, becoming the inaugural champion in the process.

During the match, Mone broke her ankle and has largely remained away from wrestling since, aside from an appearance at AEW All In.

There’s been a great deal of speculation around Mone’s future, with AEW interested in securing her services. Furthermore, it was recently reported that Mercedes Mone has no dates booked for NJPW or Stardom.

Speaking in a new interview with WrestlePurists, Rocky Romero said he hasn’t got an update on the star’s status.

“I honestly don’t have an update right now. I hope that I’ll be talking to her agent and her maybe soon-ish, but I honestly don’t have any update about anything,” he said. “The last thing I had heard was that she was recovering well and basically, they were going to let me know or reach out when she was getting close to a comeback.”

NJPW “Happy” with Mercedes Mone

Despite this, Romero explained that there’s been communication between Mone’s team and Bushiroad — the parent company of NJPW and Stardom. He added that everyone in New Japan Pro-Wrestling has been happy with Mone thus far.

“There’s definitely still communication,” he said. “Obviously, I don’t know what she’s going to want to do when she comes back for sure. Especially coming back from a serious injury that kind of messed her up, you know, maybe messed up her timeframe of what she wanted to do and how she wanted to do it. So, I really couldn’t speak for her, I don’t think it would be fair.

“I think that she thoroughly enjoyed her time in New Japan and New Japan loved working with her and obviously would love to continue to work with her, but I think everybody’s pretty happy with the work that we’ve done.”

It’s unknown when and where Mercedes Mone will return to the ring.
