Mercedes Mone Dismisses WWE Counter-Programming Threat – “I Don’t Care About Them”
Mercedes Mone has given her thoughts on WWE’s policy of counter-programming AEW events.
Throughout 2025, WWE has made a concerted attempt to counter AEW programming. This has seen several NXT go up against AEW shows, but things went to a whole new level in July.
During All In weekend, WWE put Saturday Night’s Main Event and The Great American Bash on the same day as the AEW event, and Evolution 24 hours later.
This was followed by reports that WWE will look to use TNA as a way of taking the fight to AEW. The report said that the sports entertainment giant is looking to help TNA secure a new TV deal that will see Impact move to Wednesday nights to go head-to-head with Dynamite.
In this scenario, the ultimate aim for WWE would be to help TNA become the number two promotion in North America.
With all of that speculation still rumbling on, WWE announced its first-ever Wrestlepalooza event on September 20. The PLE will be the first to air on ESPN after the company essentially secured an earlier-than-expected breakaway from Peacock. The deal had been due to begin in early 2026.
It also hasn’t gone unnoticed that September 20 is the same day as AEW All Out.
Mercedes Mone Unimpressed By WWE Tactics
During a new interview with Scott Fishman for TV Insider, Mercedes Mone was asked about WWE’s recent combative approach. As well as being one of the biggest stars in AEW, Mone also played a crucial role in the growth of women’s wrestling in WWE before ultimately walking out of the company.
However, it seems she has little time for WWE’s current tactics.
“I don’t watch them. I don’t care about them. I’m “Eight Belts Moné.” I’m a champion of so many different companies. So, the more the merrier. If they want to put on wrestling shows while we have wrestling shows, I’m always going to be better. I’m always better.
That’s why I call myself “The CEO.” They can keep on doing whatever they want to do, but AEW is taking over. If you want to watch the best, good wrestling, watch AEW.”
When it was put to Mone that the competition is heating up between the two companies, she simply replied, “No, it’s not.”
Mercedes Mone will be in action at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where she’s set to defend the TBS Championship against Alex Windsor, Bozilla, and Persephone.
