Major Update Regarding Mercedes Moné’s Future In Pro Wrestling

Mercedes Mone

A new report has new information about where Mercedes Moné wants to continue her wrestling career.

It was in early 2023 when Mercedes Mone made her debut in New Japan at the Wrestle Kingdom 17 event. Mercedes Mone would go on to win the IWGP Women’s Title, but she would only go on to hold the title for 64 days.

While Mercedes got a lot of attention in pro wrestling in the first half of 2023, she didn’t wrestle in the second half of the year. That’s because, at the NJPW STRONG Resurgence show on May 21st, Mercedes was in a match against AEW’s Willow Nightingale. During the match, Mone suffered a broken ankle. It was reported later that Mone was scheduled to win the match and become the newly-created NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion, but they put the title on Nightingale instead.

At AEW All in London in August 2023, Mercedes Mone appeared in the crowd. She also went to multiple IMPACT Wrestling shows to support her good friend and former tag team partner Trinity.

In late December, there were reports that Mone was talking to WWE about returning to the company where she gained a lot of fame as Sasha Banks, but those talks fell apart.

Mercedes Mone Expected To Join AEW

It has been reported by Fightful Select that industry sources expect Mercedes Mone to sign with All Elite Wrestling.

The story notes that after Mone was apart on terms with WWE, she continued the conversations she had with AEW even though a month earlier it appeared that they couldn’t come to terms.

While there are people with pro wrestling who expect Mone to land with AEW, it’s not known if she has physically signed the contract yet. Recent signees in AEW and WWE like Will Ospreay and CM Punk didn’t sign their contracts until the day of their appearances, so perhaps that will happen with Mone as well.

A source who heard that Mone was close to agreeing to terms with AEW told Fightful that “it’s never official until it’s official.” It’s believed that Mone was asking for one of the largest contracts in the history of women’s wrestling.

During her ten-year WWE career that ended in 2022, Mone was one of the most successful women in WWE history as Sasha Banks. She was a six-time Women’s Champion, three-time Women’s Tag Team Champion and a WrestleMania headliner as well. At the age of 31 years old, she has many more years in pro wrestling ahead of her.
