Mercedes Mone Trained With Ex-WWE Stars Ahead Of AEW Debut
Mercedes Mone worked with several ex-WWE stars to get back in her wrestling groove.
At AEW Double or Nothing, Mercedes Mone will challenge Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship. Not only is the match her first in AEW, but it’s her first match since breaking her ankle in a match against Nightingale in May 2023. In fact, the match will be only her 6th since May 2022 when she walked out of a Monday Night Raw taping while with WWE.
It’s been a long road back to the ring for Mone, who has previously revealed doctors warned the ankle injury could end her career.
In conversation with Joseph Staszewski for the New York Post, Mone discussed her tricky recovery, which included working with former WWE stars, Tyler Breeze, Scrypts, and Lince Dorado.
When I first started to train, just running ropes hurt and that scared me,” Moné said. “I’m like, ‘No way I’m going the path to feel this pain my whole life.’
Finally, it got better and little things stopped hurting and finally Breeze pushed me to do some of my moves that I was gonna do like double knees and going off the top rope. I hit them, so the fear was gone. Everything felt back to normal and I’m ready.”
Mercedes Mone Denies Competition With WWE
Speaking elsewhere, Mercedes Mone said rivalry shouldn’t exist between WWE and AEW. Mone said she’s only competing with her contemporaries in AEW and not with anyone in a different company.
The multi-time Women’s Champion added that much of the rivalry stems from people on the internet.
