Mercedes Mone Feared Repercussions From Vince McMahon After Marriage Breakdown

Mercedes Mone AEW

Mercedes Mone has spoken publicly about the end of her marriage for the first time.

In a new video posted on her YouTube channel for “Mone Talks,” Mercedes Mone revealed she’s getting divorced. The AEW star had been married to WWE costume designer Sarath Thon since 2016.

Mone said she was happy and excited to finally get things finalised, revealing the pair kept the split secret for some time. The TBS Champion went on to speak in glowing terms about her ex-husband, commenting that they still have a great relationship.

“Finally, after a long, long time, I’ll be signing my divorce papers. I’m excited, happy, and for me, I’m just ready to be free. I’m ready to be free of being afraid.

For so long, I’ve kept this secret because of how fast life has been going, and so much that has been happening in wrestling and everything, and I just didn’t want the outside world to judge or say anything, especially during the time all of this was happening.

But, you know, I’m getting a divorce and Sarath, my ex-husband now, we have such a great relationship and he’s such an amazing, incredible guy that I’m so thankful for. He’s another person that changed and saved my life.”

Mercedes Mone Kept Break Up Secret

Mone then went into the details of the breakup, confirming it actually took place in late 2020 but she went to great lengths to keep it a secret. The star said this was in large part due to not wanting disgraced former WWE boss Vince McMahon to find out, as she didn’t want to miss out on maineventing WrestleMania or having her creative plans changed.

But I’m excited to be free and say that I’m finally getting a divorce. I felt like, when we were in New York, we had interviewers asking about him, and I was like, ‘I don’t know how to deal with this, I don’t know how to get through it’. I’m like, I can’t keep hiding and talking about, ‘Yeah Sarath still does my gear’ – no, we’ve moved on, we’ve been separated for a long time.

We got separated at the end of December 2020. He finally moved out in January 2021, I was shooting The Mandalorian, plus trying everything in my power to be in the main event of WrestleMania, so of course I don’t want all of this stuff to get out, because you don’t know what Vince (McMahon) is gonna do, you don’t know what he’s gonna change, because Vince was very…

I was in a storyline with Bianca Belair, Carmella, and Carmella’s sommelier (Reggie). And Vince was so obsessed with me and the sommelier that I’m like, ‘Oh my god, he wanted us to be together’ and all this stuff. So, me and Sarath just decided we’re gonna keep this a secret.

And then a year goes by and, you know, I still don’t wanna say anything, and here comes the walkout (when she walked out of WWE), you know.

All this stuff happens, and we were trying to get a divorce and our divorce lawyer just took so long, and now we’re finally here. But my heart already feels so much better being like, I’m free.”

In the latest edition of her newsletter, Mercedes Mone hit back at former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman, writing “I am kind of annoyed with all these dumb old dudes in wrestling coming at me.” Coachman has previously claimed the star was arrogant while questioning her role in AEW.
