Mercedes Mone Remains Coy On WWE Walkout

Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone is looking forward not back.

During the May 16th, 2022, Monday Night Raw taping, Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out after what many reported was a row over creative.

When Naomi returned to the ring she did so with TNA before heading back to WWE at the 2024 Royal Rumble. However, Banks reinvented herself as Mercedes Mone and landed in NJPW before debuting with AEW in March 2024.

Despite their explosive exit being a major talking point, many of the details from that night remain a mystery, and it seems Mone is content to keep it that way.

During an interview with WFAN, Mone was asked about the walkout but declined to get into the details.

“For so many years, everyone wants the tea on that drama. You’re not going to get it unless you buy the book maybe ten years later,”

When asked whether there were any backstage issues, Mone said that moment during Raw was about taking control of her life.

“For me, I went from a Legit Boss to a CEO because I wanted to grow. There was something in my soul that said, ‘You need to grow.’ I wanted to be the CEO of my own life. There was a light source that came into my heart that day. ‘You have to do what’s right for you. What’s happening right now at this moment is not right. You have to take your life in your hands and go make it happen. Go make your heart happy. Go let them know that what they’re doing right now is wrong and show them.’ I did.

I had to let them know that I am the right one that you messed with that day, and now here I am today, one of the highest paid women in women’s wrestling history. The TBS Champion, going after the New Japan Strong Women’s Championship. I get to do so much of my dreams because of that day that I walked out and trusted my heart.”

Mercedes Mone Set For Huge Winner Take All Clash

At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Mercedes Mone will meet Stephanie Vaquer in a huge ‘Winner Take All’ match. Both Mone’s TBS Championship and Vaquer’s NJPW Strong Women’s Championship will be on the line.

In total, the event will feature four women’s matches, with “Timeless” Toni Storm’s AEW Women’s Title also up for grabs. On the eve of the event, Tony Khan claimed the AEW women’s division should now be considered the best in the world.
