Mercedes Mone Suffered Panic Attack Ahead Of Major Match
Mercedes Mone was struck by anxiety ahead of a recent match.
At Wrestle Dynasty, Mercedes Mone defeated Mina Shirakawa to claim the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship.
As a result, Mone now holds the TBS Championship, NJPW Strong Women’s Championship as well as the newly won British Championship. In fact, the star has yet to taste defeat since signing with AEW in March 2024.
The match was set up at NJPW Strong Style Evolved after Shirakawa confronted Mone in the minutes after her win over Hazuki. In the show’s main event, Mone retained her NJPW Strong Women’s Title.
Despite her impressive run of form that included another victory over Kris Statlander, Mone felt under pressure as she headed to the Tokyo Dome for Wrestle Dynasty.
Mercedes Mone Suffered Panic Attack
Writing in her Mone Mag via her website, Mone revealed that she suffered a panic attack in the hours before her match against Shirakawa after crying upon arriving in Japan.
“From the moment I landed in Japan, where I actually bawled my eyes out with both disbelief and gratitude, to the morning of the event, where I had an actual panic attack, making history was the last thing on my mind,”
Mone said that while it was her dream to wrestle in the Tokyo Dome and she was excited to make the dream come true, she was also “petrified” of letting fans down.
“Truly, it was my lifelong dream to have a match at this level at the Tokyo Dome, so I was beyond excited,” she wrote. “Along with the rich wrestling history, I feel as though, in some strange way, Japan, like Mexico, is another home. Yet, for all my joy, I was likewise petrified.
I didn’t want to let the promoters down. I didn’t want to let the fans down. I didn’t want to let Mina down. I especially, and as always, didn’t want to let the women wrestlers of today AND tomorrow down,”
The AEW star went on to heap praise on Shirakawa, calling her a superstar on the rise.
