Mercedes Mone Loses A Championship At NJPW Resurgence
Mercedes Mone has lost one of the titles she carried out for many months.
One year ago at Double or Nothing 2024, Mercedes Mone won the TBS Championship. Nearly a year later, Mone still holds that title, and she has added other titles to her collection.
In addition to the TBS Title, Mone has also held the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship and also the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship. She also has been carrying around a fourth title, but it was not a title she defended from an actual promotion. Still, Mercedes liked to refer to herself as “Four Belts Mone” while holding those titles.
Unfortunately for the cocky Mone, her reign as NJPW Strong Women’s Champion has ended.
Mercedes Mone defended the NJPW Strong Women’s Title against Mina Shirakawa and AZM at NJPW Resurgence in Ontario, California. There were a lot of quick pin attempts in the match’s final moments.
After Mone was thrown to the outside, AZM went for her patented AZM Sushi pinning combination on Shirakawa. After several attempts, the final one stuck to give AZM the win over Shirakawa, giving AZM the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.
That means Mone lost the title without being pinned, which happens in pro wrestling sometimes when wrestlers are protected and don’t get pinned in a triple threat, but they lose the title because somebody else gets pinned.
Mercedes Mone Competing In Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Finals For A Shot At AEW World Title
While Mercedes Mone has won nearly every match in AEW, she has yet to challenge for the AEW Women’s World Title. That may change soon.
At AEW Double or Nothing on May 25th in Phoenix, Mone will face former AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter in the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament finals.
Whoever wins that match between Mone and Hayter will go on to AEW All In Texas on July 12th to challenge the AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm for the Women’s World Title. Mone has yet to face Storm in AEW, so if it happens, it will be a highly anticipated match at AEW’s biggest show of the year.
