Mercedes Moné Injury Update, Backstage At Slammiversary
Mercedes Moné is out of action at the moment, but she did make a recent trip to support her friend Trinity at Slammiversary.
It’s been about two months since Mercedes Mone has been able to wrestle. She was injured in a match against Willow Nightingale in the finals of a tournament to crown the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion.
The finish was supposed to be a win for Mone to make her the champion, but she suffered an ankle injury that was pretty serious. They made the call during the match to change the finish, so Willow left as the first NJPW Strong Women’s Champion.
It is believed that Mercedes Mone suffered a broken ankle or at least a very bad sprain. It was bad enough that Mone had surgery to repair the injury.
On Saturday, Mercedes Mone was in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to attend Slammiversary where she watched her close friend (and former WWE Tag Team Championship partner) Trinity win the IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Title for the first time.
Trinity tweeted a photo with Mercedes and WWE’s Tamina, who also made the trip for Trinity’s win.

As for her future, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio revealed when Mercedes could return to the ring, but it’s not officially known when she’ll be ready to compete again.
“She’s been very quiet about everything. She was at the IMPACT Slammiversary show yesterday (July 15th) and I know she was on crutches still and she had a walking boot on. So, I don’t Know — the presumption is that she had surgery, but she is still on crutches. We haven’t heard anything about a timetable.
Obviously, the plan is for when she’s ready is for her to wrestle Giulia who won the New Japan STRONG Championship from Willow Nightingale on the 5th of July and Giluia will be on the New Japan show on August 19th I believe in Philadelphia — one of the New Japan shows in Philadelphia. So that will be her first defence of the New Japan STRONG Championship.
If Mercedes is ready by then it’ll be her. But I don’t have any kind of a timeframe and I know people who should know, who also don’t have a timeframe. She’s kept it very quiet. But just to mention that, yes, she still is on crutches.”
