Mercedes Mone Explains Motivation Behind Mone Mag
Mercedes Mone wants to take control of her own story.
2024 has been one of the more productive years of Mercedes Mone’s career, as she looks to head into 2025 as a double champion.
In her most recent outing, Mone successfully defended the TBS Title against Kris Statlander in a highly physical encounter at Full Gear. During the match, Mone was pushed to her limit and forced to deliver arguably her best performance since debuting with AEW back in March.
To go along with her success in the ring, in recent months the AEW star launched the Mone Mag, a newsletter/weekly column where she talks all things wrestling while giving fans an insight into her life away from the cameras.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Mone said the creation of the newsletter and subsequently her own website was a way of controlling her own narrative.
“This whole last two to three years, the internet, people just wanna create their own stories,” Moné said. “Really [the website] was just to control the narrative and to get my voice back. Going on social media every single day and seeing these made up stories, it’s like enough’s enough.”
Mercedes Mone To Headline NJPW Event
Meanwhile, it’s been announced that Mercedes Mone will headline NJPW Strong Style Evolved on December 15th. At the event, she’ll defend her NJPW Strong Women’s Title against Hazuki, with Gabe Kidd putting the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship against Ryohei Oiwa in the co-main event.
In the wake of her win over Statlander, Mone expressed her desire to return to Japan for Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th, 2025. The star then called on Tony Khan to make the appearance happen.
