Mercedes Mone Is Everything Sasha Banks Wanted To Be
Mercedes Mone has taken control.
Mercedes Varnado became a star in WWE as Sasha Banks, but since leaving the sports entertainment giant, things have gone to a whole new level.
As Mercedes Mone, Varnado has conquered the wrestling world like no female competitor before her, and there could still be more to come.
At All In, Mone will challenge “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship as she looks to win the company’s top prize for the first time. But even more impressively, should she be victorious, Mone will hold five championships simultaneously.
In a new interview with CBS Sports ahead of her big night in Texas, Mone said that the CEO is everything the Legit Boss wanted to be.
“She wanted it all, but she never got to hold it all. Mercedes Mone, the CEO, is everything ‘The Legit Boss’ wanted to be. She controls her life, narrative and intellectual property.
“It’s being the boss of your life, taking control and doing that daily,” she continued. “I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my professional wrestling career. It’s so crazy to say that. I thought maybe my 20s would be my highest point. Here I am going into my 15th year of professional wrestling feeling my greatest. I can’t even imagine what the next five years will hold.”
Tony Khan Hits Back At Mercedes Mone Speculation
During a media call ahead of All In, Tony Khan said it was “ridiculous” to suggest that Mercedes Mone had creative control in AEW. Khan explained that while he works with a wider team of people and meets with Mone among others regularly, he has the final say on all creative.
Elsewhere on the call, Tony Khan denied that Britt Baker is looking to leave AEW. It had recently been reported that Baker was looking to break her AEW contract and become a free agent.
