Mercedes Moné Contract Status Update
An update has been provided on the wrestling future of former IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Moné.
Mercedes Moné had an eventful Sunday at the STARDOM All-Star Grand Queendom event in Tokyo because she lost the IWGP Women’s Championship to Mayu Iwatani. It was only Mone’s second title defense as the champion.
In her first NJPW match at Battle in the Valley, Mercedes beat KAIRI to become the new IWGP Women’s Champion. After that, Mercedes Moné would go on to retain her title at NJPW Sakura Genesis on April 8th in a triple-threat match against AZM and Hazuki.
Moné will be appearing at the May 21st event in Long Beach, California called NJPW Resurgence.
It was also reported by Fightful Select that Mercedes “has no more dates left with Stardom as of this moment, according to members of her team.” Both sides are open to working together in the future and Stardom was happy with the previous deal they had with Mercedes. The story adds that “it would likely require a bigger renegotiation” since she drew a lot of business for the company.
With regard to other reports about Mercedes Mone having an extension to her deal with NJPW/Stardom, Fightful was told by members of her team that it covers the NJPW Resurgence show in May. There are apparently no matches for her scheduled for her in Japan for “at least a while.”
Prior to the NJPW show on May 21st in Long Beach, Mercedes Mone will also have a signing at Atomic Crush Events, so she will go to the NJPW event after that.
The Fightful story also noted that Mercedes has been working on more television and film projects as well while adding that NJPW & Stardom said positive things about Mercedes backstage.
