Mercedes Mone Confronted By Surprising Challenger After First AEW Dynamite Match

Mercedes Mone AEW TBS Champion

The TBS Champion Mercedes Mone competed on AEW Dynamite for the first time and she also had a staredown with a surprising potential opponent.

At the AEW Double or Nothing PPV in Las Vegas, Mercedes Mone had her first match in over a year after a serious ankle injury in May 2023 sidelined her for a year. The Double or Nothing match saw Mone beat Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship in a great match that showed that Mone hadn’t missed a beat.

Going into AEW Dynamite in Los Angeles, All Elite Wrestling promoted a celebration for the new TBS Champion Mone. The show opened with Mone getting a championship celebration complete with balloons in the ring. Mone did a promo giving credit to the former champion Nightingale while also looking forward to the future.

There was an interruption when Skye Blue appeared on the video screen and she had a video with her. There was a video shown of Mercedes Mone being attacked a few weeks ago. Blue said that was some of her best work and she was just getting started. While Mone was looking toward the video, Blue attacked Mone from behind and Blue slammed Mone off her shoulders. Blue grabbed the TBS Title and posed over Mone with it.

A match was made for later in the show where Mercedes Mone defended the TBS TItle against Skye Blue. While Blue put up a fight during the match and hit some big moves, ultimately it was Mone hitting her finishing move the Mone Maker for the pinfall win.

Mercedes Mone Has Staredown WIth NJPW Strong Women’s Champion

After Mone picked up the win over Blue, there was some unfamiliar music that played in the arena. That’s when Stephanie Vaquer from CMLL walked out as the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion. Vaquer held up her title from the ramp while Mone held up her TBS Title in the ring.

Earlier on Dynamite, a video aired about Vaquer that teased the idea that she would be wrestling in AEW soon.

While no match was announced between Mone and Vaquer, the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door PPV is set to take place on June 30th and it’s certainly possible that a match between AEW’s Mone and CMLL’s Vaquer could be taking place on that show.
