Mercedes Mone Called Out By Former AEW Champion
An AEW wrestler has made it clear she’s coming after Mercedes Mone when the time is right.
Ever since Mercedes Mone joined AEW this past March, all she has done is win matches. Mone has been the TBS Champion for over 200 days and has taken on all comers.
At AEW Worlds End, Mercedes Mone beat Kris Statlander in an outstanding match that was the longest women’s match in AEW history while also earning a huge ovation from the fans in Orlando. Mone won the match after hooking the arms of Statlander followed by Mone grabbing onto a leg for more leverage for the pinfall win.
It was the second PPV in a row where Mone beat Statlander with the TBS Title on the line because Mone also won at Full Gear.
As for what’s next, former TBS Champion Julia Hart told Variety that Mercedes Mone has “her title” so it appears as though Hart wants to face Mone in the future.
“Definitely Mercedes (Moné), she has my title. Probably Willow (Nightingale) too, she took the belt from me. I’ve never worked with Mariah (May), I’ve never worked with Toni (Storm). I would love to work with Serena Deeb, I think she’s someone I could learn a lot from in the ring.”
The reason Julia Hart refers to the TBS Title as “my title” is because she held it for 155 days until April 2024.
Mercedes Mone Excited About Next Title Match
Next up for Mercedes Mone is a match at NJPW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th in the Tokyo Dome when she faces Mina Shirakawa in a match for Mone’s NJPW Strong Women’s Title and Shirakawa’s RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship.
Mercedes Mone recently wrote in her Mone Mag newsletter that competing in Japan’s Tokyo Dome will be a dream come true for her.
“Let me tell you, Mina and I are so thrilled about this match that we danced our hearts out! Wrestling in the Tokyo Dome has been a dream of mine since I was just 13 years old, and honestly, I can’t help but tear up as I write this.
“Come January 5, you better believe I’m bringing every ounce of passion, fire, and strength in my soul, and I know Mina will do the same. This championship match is going to be one for the ages, and I can’t wait for all of you to witness it! See you in the Dome!”
The NJPW Wrestle Dynasty will feature several other big name stars from AEW, including Kenny Omega in action for the first time in over a year. Omega will face Gabe Kidd at the show.
