Mercedes Mone Wants AEW’s Women To Take Center Stage

Mercedes Mone thinks it’s time for the women of AEW to take over.

At All In, Mercedes Mone and “Timeless” Toni Storm went to war over the AEW Women’s World Championship. The match was billed as perhaps the biggest women’s match in company history, especially given the star power involved.

However, when all was said and done, it was Storm who retained the gold, handing Mone her first defeat since becoming All Elite.

During a new interview with Jon Alba for The Takedown on SI, Mone looked back on that epic clash with Storm, while laying down her hopes for what might come next. She began by praising Storm and said their match was one of the best of her career.

“Toni Storm is just undeniable. Amazing, incredible. And that was legit one of my favorite matches of my whole entire career,” Moné said.

“Just that moment, the feeling, just the entrances, to, I felt like we created so much magic. And we had, I can say, the greatest women’s match in AEW history. I really feel like it just opened the eyes of so many people that women can do absolutely anything and everything.”

Mercedes Mone Wants More For AEW’s Women

Mone went on to say that the next step for the women’s division is to main event a pay-per-view before reiterating that All In was a career highlight.

“I feel like our next big goal is to have a woman main event a pay-per-view. That’s my dream and my goal for us. I feel like we left fans wanting so much more, and I just care so much about our product and the women’s division,” Moné said. “So, that’s a match that holds so high in my career, and one of my favorite matches that I’ve ever had.”

She added that she hoped her match with Storm would headline All In, but feels that their eventual rematch could easily take the top spot on the card. The TBS Champion said that she could also main event with Kris Statlander or Willow Nightingale.

Speaking elsewhere, Mercedes Mone again denied that she has creative control in AEW. Instead, the star pointed to the strength of the women’s division and said that as a result, she’s happy to wrestle whoever Tony Khan chooses.

Mercedes Mone will be in action at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where she’s set to defend the TBS Championship against Alex Windsor, Bozilla, and Persephone.
