Mercedes Moné Names AEW Star As Reason She Joined The Company
Mercedes Mone is ready to face the AEW wrestler who inspired her to sign with the company.
When Mercedes Mone decided to sign with AEW in early 2024, it came at a time when she was contemplating a WWE return. Since joining AEW in March 2024, Mone has held the TBS Championship for over one year, and she’s 22-0 in singles matches in AEW.
That 22nd victory took place at AEW’s Double or Nothing event in Phoenix, where Mercedes Mone defeated Jamie Hayter to win the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
The reward for that tournament win is a shot at the AEW Women’s World Title, held by Toni Storm, at All In Texas on July 12th.
Since Mone joined AEW, she has been kept apart from Storm, who is a four-time Women’s World Champion and the woman many people consider to be AEW’s greatest female superstar.
Mercedes Mone Signed With AEW Partly Because Of Toni Storm
At the post-Double or Nothing press conference, Mercedes Mone spoke about her big win over Jamie Hayter while also looking ahead to Toni Storm, whom Mone admires.
“She (Storm) might be timeless, but I’m legendary. I’m iconic and my legacy can never be undone. I mean, I’ve been looking forward to facing Toni Storm for a very long time.
I’ve been watching her for years, all the way since STARDOM. She is timeless for a reason. She holds the AEW Women’s Championship for a reason. But I’m four belts Moné, I am the CEO of not only AEW, RevPro, New Japan. Soon we’ll be going to Mexico. But, I am a global champion for a reason and I want all the gold and Toni, be prepared for your greatest match of your life.
She’s legit one of the reasons why I came to AEW. She put AEW on storm for me. I couldn’t stop watching every single week because of her. But I’m ready to dethrone the ‘Timeless’ one and we’re gonna go onto the revolution of Mercedes Moné.”
All In Texas will take place on July 12th and is considered to be AEW’s biggest show of the year. The other big title match confirmed for the show is “Hangman” Adam Page challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title.
