Matt Riddle Targets WWE’s Brock Lesnar With New Controversial Claim
Matt Riddle has opened his mouth and Brock Lesnar’s name has come tumbling out once again.
Matt Riddle has never been one to shy away from controversy. Riddle has caused a stir in the past with his comments on Brock Lesnar, with many thinking that Riddle was angling for a WWE feud with The Beast Incarnate.
Riddle has since been let go by WWE, while Lesnar is very much back in the fold with the company despite being implicated in the ongoing sexual abuse lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon.
Matt Riddle Did Not Want To Be Brock Lesnar Copy
Now, speaking to ex-ECW star Shane Douglas, Riddle has explained that when he made the switch from UFC to WWE, he didn’t want to end up being a smaller version of Brock Lesnar:
I am a rarity, and I would say this is what makes me rare compared to most of those other people. I’d even compare myself to Ken Shamrock and Brock Lesnar. They’re very good, but most of the time, nine times out of ten, they are so dominant because they’re fighters.
I feel like my character — even though I was ranked top 10 in the world and I’m legit — one of my real strengths is my ability to sell. Very much so. Even though I can destroy people, do all the moves, deadlift everybody… the ability to sell and be vulnerable is where my value is.
I don’t think anybody was able to do it quite like me. I think a lot of people might watch some of the others wrestle and feel like it’s kind of one-dimensional. And for me, I was such a fan of pro wrestling growing up that I didn’t just want to be a little Brock Lesnar. I wanted to be me.
I wanted to be able to do it all — to take Canadian Destroyers… sell it over the top, and not just no-sell everything. I wanted to be able to translate that into my work. I think that’s what separates me from all the other mixed martial artists who transitioned like I did.
