Matt Hardy Believes Jeff Hardy Wants To “Right The Wrongs” In WWE

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy

Matt Hardy has discussed his brother Jeff Hardy’s mindset about returning to WWE for a match on the NXT brand.

The Hardy Boyz are going back “home” to WWE even though they are contracted TNA wrestlers. Due to the WWE-TNA partnership that has seen the NXT brand cross over with TNA a lot over the last year, it is not a surprise that WWE would want to reach out to future Hall of Famers Matt & Jeff Hardy for a match.

During the February 18th edition of NXT, the Hardy brothers were challenged to a match by No Quarter Catch Crew’s Myles Borne & Tavion Heights. Later in the show, The Hardys responded to accept the match that will take place on February 25th on NXT in Cincinnati.

When Matt Hardy talked about it on his podcast, he admitted it was a last-minute thing.

“This was, you know, a very last minute thing. It’s very cool because everyone knows that TNA and NXT have this partnership right now, I think it’s going to continue to expand a little bit. It has been so beneficial for TNA, it has also been very beneficial for NXT.

I feel like just over the last little bit, probably after Fraxiom shows up and they watched us defend the titles against The Rascalz, I would imagine that wheels started turning from the powers that be. I don’t know all of the details on all these things, I’m still talent brother, I’m not booking, I’m talent. I think there was some interest there.”

Jeff Hardy Returning To WWE Ring After Controversial Exit

When WWE released Jeff Hardy in 2021, it was because he refused to go to rehab after exhibiting questionable behavior. Following his WWE departure, Jeff joined his brother Matt in AEW. Sadly for Jeff, he had a DUI arrest that also featured a video showing he was extremely inebriated at the time. Thankfully for Jeff’s sake, he went to rehab, he finally got better after having issues for two decades, and appears to be on the right path in life without drugs and alcohol.

The Hardy Brothers are wrestling veterans with 30 years of experience in the business they love. Matt is 50 years old and Jeff is 47 years old while the legendary brothers are in the role of leaders in TNA where they are the Tag Team Champions.

While speaking on The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt spoke about his brother Jeff’s motivation to return to WWE showing that he is in a better place in life than he was four years ago when he was fired.

“He’s very happy to be going back and I feel like he wants to right the wrongs, he wants to leave on a good note, no more erratic behavior. He wants to go back and show them who he is.

I think one of the reasons when with this whole exchange going on, I think one of the reasons they probably waited a little while to pull the trigger and do something with Jeff and I was to just kind of see where Jeff was, just to make sure that Jeff is good. Anybody who’s been here with TNA, they can’t go without talking about how incredible and professional of a performer Jeff has been, especially with us when do these marathon post-show meet and greets, how we’re just being kind to everybody.

We’re happy to be there, man. We’re just happy with what we’re doing, man. We’re blessed to still be doing this 33 years into the journey. Those words spread. Even when we did the thing where we were doing the signing at WrestleCon and we changed our flight to an hour and a half later so we could finish those last hundred who had waited for four or five hours to see us, that stuff builds equity and word spreads man.

Word of mouth gets around and I think that’s attributed to a lot of our success and our popularity among people as well.”

During their WWE careers, Matt & Jeff Hardy were 10-time Tag Team Champions together, they also held multiple singles titles including Jeff’s 3 World Title reigns. They are also both TNA World Champions as well. The Hardys are no doubt WWE Hall of Famers in the future.
