Matt Cardona believes the time is right to return to a major TV company.

The former Zack Ryder spent fourteen years with WWE before being released in April 2020 as part of budget cuts during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The former WWE Intercontinental Champion has received widespread praise for his work ethic following his WWE departure, reinventing himself as the ‘Indy God’ and lifting gold around the globe with the likes of GCW, NWA and DDT Pro-Wrestling.

Cardona could soon be set for a return to a major company on television, however, after revealing he is now ready to make that jump in a recent appearance on ‘Rasslin with Bradon Walker‘:

“When I got released from WWE four years ago, my whole goal wasn’t ‘what can I do to get back there.’ I knew I had to forget about WWE, forget about AEW, and focus on myself. Rebuild and rebrand. I think I’ve successfully done that.

Now it’s time, coming back from this injury, I’ve done everything there is to do on the indies. Won all the titles. There are titles in my closet right now, I don’t even know what promotion they are for. Been there, done that.

Now is the time to go to a major TV company. I don’t know if Major TV Company God has the same ring to it as Indie God, but we’ll figure it out.”

Matt Cardona Reflects On Dream Match

Matt Cardona was expected by many to join Tony Khan’s AEW upon his release from WWE. Despite a handful of appearances in mid-2020, a long-term deal did not materialise and Cardona did not make a return to the promotion until March 2024.

On that occasion he was answering an open challenge from Adam Copeland for the AEW TNT Championship. Despite failing to capture the title, Cardona reflected glowingly on the opportunity to set foot in the ring with one of his heroes.
