Matt Cardona

Matt Cardona has filed a trademark for the name “Zack Ryder” now that it has become available.

The trademark was filed on January 14th and covers essentially everything related to entertainment services as a professional wrestler. The full explanation of the trademark filing and what it encompasses can be found below.

Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainment personality; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality; Organization, arranging and conducting of sumo wrestling competitions; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality in the field of professional wrestling, sports entertainment, and toys and collectibles for entertainment purposes

Mark For: ZACK RYDER trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of bandanas; Hats; Shirts; Socks; Shirts and short-sleeved shirts; Sweatshirts; Hooded sweatshirts.

Matt Cardona wrestled under that name between 2007 and 2020 when he was released from WWE. Following his release, Cardona has been wrestling under his real name and has split his time between IMPACT Wrestling, GCW, and the NWA, and has won a world title in the latter two companies.

Matt Cardona’s opinion on his former WWE name and personality appears to be constantly changing. He once stated that “Zack Ryder is dead” and that the character would never return. Then at another point, he stated that he was open to a WWE return, but only if he would wrestle under his real name. How WWE would explain that in story/in universe wasn’t clarified.

And at another point, Matt Cardona even proposed returning to WWE under his real name so that he could wrestle Zack Ryder, as if Ryder was a separate person/wrestler from Cardona.
