Massive Star Advances In John Cena’s Tournament On WWE RAW

John Cena on WWE Raw

17-time WWE World Champion John Cena’s retirement match is just around the corner, as only weeks remain on his retirement tour. However, his final opponent hasn’t yet been decided.

First round matches of the ‘Last Time is Now’ tournament, designed to figure out Cena’s final opponent, were concluded last week on SmackDown. The second round will kick off tonight on RAW with two matches of the round scheduled for tonight’s show.

Solo Sikoa is set to take on Penta later in the night while Carmelo Hayes faced tournament-favorite, Gunther in the first match of the night. Gunther has already retired Goldberg this year and would relish the opportunity to retire another legend of the business.

Former WWE Champion Gunther moves on to the next round

The longest reigning Intercontinental Champion is widely seen as the favorite to win the tournament given his pedigree and in-ring skills. He faced a valiant Carmelo Hayes tonight who gave it his everything in the match, just like he did in the previous round.

Gunther was dominating the majority of the match but Hayes’ resilience was frustrating the former World Heavyweight Champion. He showed flashes of brilliance against Gunther and almost won the match via count out, but the Ring General made it back just in the nick of time.

Gunther eventually picked up the win against Melo after hitting the former NXT Champion with a powerbomb, just when he was about to sneak out of the sleeper hold. Melo pushed Gunther to the limit tonight, but the Ring General is now just one step away from the finals of the tournament.
