Massive NXT Championship Match Announced For Tonight
Tonight’s episode of NXT builds on an incredibly successful NXT Deadline event that took place this past Saturday. The show dealt with the fallout from last weekend’s event, which saw the return of a popular star.
In addition to a surprise return, the last Premium Live Event of the year featured many marquee matches. The show made history, as for the first time, the NXT Championship was defended in the opening match of the show.
Ricky Saints put his title on the line against Oba Femi, but was unable to retain the belt as Oba defeated Ricky to become a two-time NXT Champion at the event. Following his win, he opened tonight’s show, where he addressed his win and the upcoming match against Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Oba Femi to defend his NXT Championship tonight
The new NXT Champion was out in the ring and talking about how he would overcome Cody Rhodes this coming Saturday, before he was interrupted by the man he defeated at Deadline, Ricky Saints.
Saints demanded Oba a rematch for the title, just like the Ruler did at Gold Rush, but before he could say anything, the Men’s Iron Survivor, Je’Von Evans, made his way down the ring and reminded everyone that he has a shot at the title at New Year’s Evil.
He said he wasn’t going to wait…

However, instead of waiting for January, Evans asked Oba to give him his championship match tonight, and after resisting the Young OG for a little while, Oba Femi accepted Evans’ challenge.
