Massive Name Ruled Out As New AEW Signing
Speculation around AEW’s latest major signing continues to run wild.
On November 15th, Tony Khan revealed that “one of the world’s best wrestlers” would be at Full Gear to sign their new AEW contract. The news set social media on fire, with fans speculating about who the new signing might be. Theories jumped from Will Ospreay to Sami Callihan and even to Goldberg. But one name stood out and seemed to make the most sense, that of Mercedes Mone.
The star appeared in the crowd at All In back in August, and Khan has been open about his desire to work with the former WWE star. To add to the rumours, just days earlier it had been reported that there are currently no plans in place for Mone to return to Japan where she has been working since leaving WWE.
However, according to a new report from Fightful Select, Mercedes Mone won’t be unveiled as AEW’s new signing — at least not yet. The report notes that although there are plans for the two sides to work together in the future, Mone won’t be the announcement at Full Gear.
The working plan remains for Mone to feature in AEW, although Fightful hasn’t heard when.
Away from the report from Fightful, Ronda Rousey’s name has gained a lot of momentum on social media. The star left WWE back in August and recently appeared at Wrestling Revolver Unreal with a number of AEW stars.
Tony Khan Working Hard To Keep Hold Of Top AEW Star
While Tony Khan is always keen to add to his roster, the AEW boss is also working hard to keep his established stars under contract.
MJF has been talking up the “bidding war in 2024” for well over a year and has been open about his desire to hear what WWE has to offer when his contract expires. To add to the speculation, MJF was recently left out of a press release for All In.
Speaking in a new interview, the AEW World Champion said Tony Khan is trying his hardest to keep him.
