Massive AEW Star Suggested For John Cena’s Final Opponent

John Cena

A WWE personality believes that an AEW wrestler would be perfect as John Cena’s final opponent.

There are just four dates left in John Cena’s WWE retirement tour following his big win over AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia.

  • November 10: WWE Raw in Boston, MA
  • November 17: WWE Raw in New York, NY
  • November 29: WWE Survivor Series in San Diego, CA
  • December 13: Saturday Night’s Main Event, Washington, D.C.

It’s not known if Cena will wrestle on Raw in Boston and New York, but he is expected to have matches at Survivor Series and Saturday Night’s Main Event. Names like Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio have been rumored to face Cena at Survivor Series, while former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther has been reported as Cena’s possible final opponent.

Since nothing is official, many people will make comments suggesting that a former opponent of Cena’s, such as Randy Orton, CM Punk, AJ Styles, or even Batista, would be the best final opponent. Another name mentioned is Edge, which becomes a bit more complicated.

“Edge Is The Guy” As John Cena’s Final Opponent

During John Cena’s prime as WWE Champion, one of his frequent opponents was the former WWE Champion, Edge. The two men had many big matches at major WWE shows and traded championships multiple times. While Cena was a prototypical babyface that the fans loved, Edge was a pure heel who would do anything it took to win.

If Edge were currently under contract to WWE, then he may have faced Cena at some point this year. However, Edge joined AEW as Adam Copeland (his real name) in October 2023, and it is believed that he has more time remaining on his contract with them.

However, WWE commentator Peter Rosenberg told Chris Van Vliet on his podcast that Edge is the right guy to be Cena’s final opponent.

“Edge is the guy. I mean, again, I don’t know exactly what his deal is. I know there’s been some speculation that it could be up, maybe.

Yeah, of the ones that could happen, of the ones that are remotely possible, Edge would be the one. Listen, it’s Edge or Randy for John’s top opponent of all time. Sure, I know people can say Rock, and there’s Punk, and there’s good reason to say them both, but to me, peak John Cena — true champ babyface Cena, Super Cena — Edge was the foil, and Edge was such a great foil.

So to me, of the ones that are out there, that exist, even more than Batista, it should be Edge. But again, we just have no idea.” (H/T Ringsidenews)

Whether it could contractually happen is another story, but at least in Rosenberg’s mind, Edge would be the right opponent for Cena’s final match.
