Mark Briscoe has given an update on the AEW Continental Classic.

There might have only been one Continental Classic to date, but the tournament has already proven to be a big hit with fans.

The inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023 was won by Eddie Kingston who defeated Jon Moxley at Worlds End to claim the title. Kingston had qualified second in the Blue League behind Bryan Danielson before going on to beat the American Dragon in the semi-finals.

Kingston subsequently lost the Continental Championship to Kazuchika Okada.

Mark Briscoe was one of the biggest success stories to come out of the 2023 tournament, impressing as a singles star for the first time on national television. Although he only won one match, in an interview with Adam Barnard of Foundation Radio, Briscoe said the tournament was an important step in his career.

Briscoe also revealed that the 2024 edition of the event will begin on Thanksgiving Eve.

“Continental Classic season is coming up. Thanksgiving Eve, that’s the start of the Continental Classic. With [Kazuchika] Okada being the current Continental Champion, he’s the focal point. He’s the target.

I feel like the Continental Classic last year was in a way, in my singles career, it was almost like a coming out party. It was like I got a chance to wrestle four guys in my block.

I don’t think anybody knew what I could do in singles competition. I didn’t really make out too well in the wins and the losses, but I learned, so I didn’t lose. I learned. I’m either going to win, or I’m going to learn. Ain’t no losing, you understand?

I’m looking forward to it, man. I’m looking forward to hopefully being in the Continental Classic this year. But one way or the other, I would love to take on Okada, and I would love to have a Ring of Honor strap here, Continental title here. I think that would look good on me,”

AEW is yet to officially confirm the start date for the tournament.

Meanwhile, it’s been announced that Mark Briscoe will put his ROH World Title on the line against Chris Jericho in a Ladder Match on the October 23rd edition of Dynamite.
