Mark Briscoe Determined To Shine Light On The Briscoe Brothers’ Legacy

Mark Briscoe has a new determination.

For several years, Mark and Jay Briscoe dominated the world of tag team wrestling outside of WWE, earning a reputation as one of the best teams ever. In fact, Sami Zayn recently named The Briscoes as the greatest tag team of all time.

However, their story took a tragic turn on January 17, 2023, when Jay Briscoe was killed in a car accident.

Despite the incredible loss, Mark returned to the ring and has since found success as a singles star. While becoming a regular in AEW and clashing with the likes of former World Champion Jon Moxley, he also emotionally claimed the Ring of Honor World Championship in April 2024.

The Briscoes had a lengthy association with ROH stretching back more than two decades. Mark and Jay remain the most successful team in company history, having held the title on 13 occasions.

Mark Briscoe Names His Wrestling Mission

During a new interview with Dave Meltzer and Garrett Gonzales, Mark explained how his focus has shifted after the passing of his brother. He noted that his aim is to perform at a high enough level to persuade people to go back and watch his matches alongside Jay, because that was “the gold.”

“I never will in my life have anything that I cherish like our tag team career together, me and Jay as The Briscoe Brothers. I could have, whatever, a thousand five-star matches and win all the awards. Nothing I could do at this point can scratch the surface of the legacy of the Briscoe Brothers.

Part of my mission at this point is to perform at a level where people enjoy what I’m doing and what I’m presenting, and they’ll search out some old Briscoe Brothers stuff because that was the gold.”

While discussing the new documentary on The Briscoes, Mark dismissed the idea that he’s carrying their legacy, instead praising Jay’s children, Gracie and Jayleigh, who were also in the car accident that claimed their father’s life.

“They’re my heroes from now on. From now until I head to the grave myself, those two are my heroes. Some people will tell me, ‘Good job, Mark, you’re carrying on for The Briscoes’ and whatever. They are carrying on (for The Briscoes).”

Mark added that Gracie is back doing “back handsprings and tumbling” despite doctors fearing she’d never walk again following the accident.
