Mark Briscoe Claims ROH Star Is One Of The World’s Best
Mark Briscoe has become the latest name to praise an ROH Champion.
No matter what he achieves over the course of the rest of his career, Mark Briscoe will forever be associated with Ring of Honor. Mark and his late brother Jay helped put the company on the map, and the former continues to proudly fly the ROH flag to this day.
So it’s perhaps not much of a surprise that he’s a huge fan of the company’s longest-ever reigning champion.
Since winning the Women’s Title in December 2022, Athena has defeated any and all comers and recently surpassed Samoa Joe as the longest-reigning champion in company history. To highlight just how highly she’s thought of, Mercedes Mone said a match between the pair would be an all-time classic.
During an appearance on the Battleground podcast, Briscoe also took time to praise Athena, calling her one of the greatest wrestlers on the planet.
“I just want to take this time to put over one of, if not the best professional wrestler in the world, top five in my book, anyway, and that is Athena. I mean, the way that she has carried this Ring of Honor Women’s Title and, I mean, just whenever you know the decision is made to get her on AEW, she’s going to take over, man.
She’s just so complete and so good as a performer and as a wrestler,”
Mark Briscoe Loses ROH World Title
While Athena is still riding high, Mark Briscoe lost the Ring of Honor World Title against Chris Jericho on Dynamite in a wild Ladder Match.
Briscoe appeared to be heading to victory after hitting a huge Froggy Bow from the top of a ladder to drive Jericho through a table. Jericho was then laid out with the Jay Driller, and Briscoe looked to climb the ladder after Rocky Romero had already chased off Brian Keith. However, Big Bill ran in through the crowd and Chokeslammed Briscoe from the ladder through two tables at ringside.
Bill subsequently scooped Jericho onto his shoulders and climbed the ladder to retrieve the ROH World Title.
