Mariah May Has Never Been A Fan Of AEW Star
Mariah May was playing the long game.
In November 2023, Mariah May arrived in AEW as a giddy Toni Storm superfan. This saw the star imitate Storm during her matches, and never miss an opportunity to pay homage to a woman who had become essentially her idol.
However, the love-in hid May’s true motives and a darker side to her character. This finally emerged in July when May violently attacked Storm after winning the Women’s Owen Hart Cup.
With the victory, May earned a shot at Storm’s Women’s World Title, and she subsequently dethroned the champion at All In.
Mariah May Used Toni Storm To Get To The Top
During an appearance on Nico Knows Best, May again discussed her disdain for Storm, claiming she would likely be the face of AEW if she hadn’t destroyed her.
“I am the most dominant champion in AEW, look at what I did to Toni Storm,” May said. “Toni Storm was the face of our division, she would honestly be the face of the company if it wasn’t for me, and what I did to her, I destroyed her.”
Despite their earlier friendship, May claimed she was never a fan of Storm and was merely using her to get a foot in the door before taking over.
“I’ve always been a Toni Storm fan, that’s why I chose to follow her and to learn everything from her, and to steal her life. I always knew coming in I was going to use Toni Storm,” May revealed. “I have no relationship with Toni Storm.
Mina [Shirakawa], I love, we’re still friends, I love Mina, I gave her a chance, she couldn’t get the job done which I’m not surprised. But Toni is not my friend, she’s never been my friend, and she never will be my friend.”
Mariah May is set to defend the AEW Women’s World Title against Thunder Rosa at Worlds End on December 28th. It’s been announced that the match will be a Tijuana Street Fight. Meanwhile, Mercedes Mone will put her TBS Title on the line against Kris Statlander, in a huge rematch from Full Gear.
Mone and May have been trading shots in interviews in recent weeks, seemingly laying the groundwork for a storyline between the pair.
