Many Believe The Rock & Triple H Are Still Rivals In WWE
The Rock’s recent comments surrounding WrestleMania controversy have led many to believe the old rivalry he had with Triple H is still burning.
At WrestleMania 41, John Cena captured the 17th world title of his career from Cody Rhodes. However, Cena’s win has been overshadowed by someone who was not even at the show, The Rock.
When Travis Scott made his entrance at the event, almost everyone expected The Rock to follow the rap star into Allegiant Stadium but that never happened. For many, the absence was made worse by The Rock appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, where he admitted the creative heading into WrestleMania might not have been perfect following John Cena’s shock heel turn at Elimination Chamber.
The man in charge of WWE’s creative is, of course, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque – a man The Rock knows very well. But is their relationship back on the rocks?
The Rock & Triple H Still WWE Rivals?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that many who listened to The Rock’s full comments on The Pat McAfee Show believed there is still some friction between The Final Boss and Triple H:
The old rivalry, and it did exist with Levesque and Dwayne from ’97, ’98, it’s not a secret that Levesque and Shawn Michaels tried to keep Dwayne down. I think they could see him as opposition to their ruling the kingdom. Everyone knows that and here we are decades later, they have to work together. One’s on the board, one’s head of creative. People who watched the McAfee thing, they sensed the rivalry was still there.
After a discussion with Bryan Alvarez over what was planned and what changed at the last minute on the road to WrestleMania, Meltzer also noted that The Rock will do what he wants, which could lead to friction with Triple H as WWE’s creative lead:
The Rock is going to do whatever he wants. We’ve established that last year too, he’s going to do what he wants except Cody said no (to turning heel). I’m positive there are many people who agreed with Cody that it was not the time to turn heel. Ironically, now the fans are booing him.
Whether a power struggle is really taking place at the top of WWE remains to be seen. The Rock did claim WWE did bring him in to help ailing ticket sales at Elimination Chamber leading to Cena’s heel turn being brought forward from WrestleMania 41.
