Malakai Black Teases AEW Farewell

Malakai Black AEW

Serious questions have been raised over the AEW future of Malakai Black following the unusual ending to his Dynamite match with Adam Cole.

Adam Cole has to win three matches to get his hands on MJF in a match at Full Gear – something that the former AEW World Champion is desperate to avoid. On Fright Night Dynamite, Adam Cole defeated The House of Black’s Buddy Matthews before he was confronted by Malakai Black.

That led to a match between Black and Cole on the 6th of November edition of Dynamite with Adam Cole again picking up the win. But all the talk at the end of the bout was regarding Malakai Black.

Cole kicked out of Black’s vicious Black Mass kick – something not usually seen and was able to lower the boom on Black as the Dutch star sat crossed-legged in the ring and seemingly allowed it to happen. After the match, Malakai Black and Adam Cole hugged in the ring with Cole paying tribute to his opponent at the start of his promo.

Is Malakai Black Leaving AEW?

All of this has led to renewed speculation about Malakai Black’s future in AEW. Fightful Select has issued an update on the situation noting that many in AEW believed Black would be done with the company towards the end of 2024 or early 2025 – however, that has not been officially confirmed.

The report cited Tony Khan commenting that Black was under contract with AEW “for almost five years” back in 2022, but that deal is said to include option years.

Questions have long been asked about Malakai Black’s status in AEW with the belief being that the star is looking for a return to WWE, the company he was released from in 2021.
