Major WWE Tag Team Officially Splits

A WWE tag team that had some success is officially over after a betrayal on SmackDown.

When The Miz and Carmelo Hayes (aka Melo Don’t Miz) teamed up on the September 26th episode of WWE SmackDown, they were in a number one contender’s match against The Street Profits.

During the match, Hayes was on fire for his team and ready to do a top rope move, but Miz tagged himself in. After Melo was crotched on the top rope, the Profits hit Miz with some of their signature moves and beat him after Montez Ford hit his patented From The Heavens Frog Splash.

What was interesting about the finish was that Melo was on the apron and could have made the save, but he chose not to.

One week later, on WWE SmackDown in Cincinnati, Carmelo Hayes was shown walking backstage, where The Miz mentioned that Melo watched Miz get pinned last week. The brash Melo said that Miz should have kicked out, but Miz replied that he had taken three finishers. The veteran Miz said that Melo should have watched his back. However, Melo told Miz that this is done. Miz didn’t seem sure about that. After Melo assured Miz that things were good between them, Miz had an angry look on his face.

The Miz Attacks Carmelo Hayes On WWE SmackDown

Following their discussion in the backstage area, Carmelo Hayes made his entrance after Sami Zayn went into the ring to defend the US Title against a surprise opponent in an open challenge match.

Hayes did a promo saying he already answered Sami Zayn’s US Title challenge, but this time, he doesn’t have somebody holding him back (in reference to The Miz). Melo said that you know how great he is, and tonight in Cincinnati, he’s the best he has ever been. Melo said he was about to show you why he is “Him” and that’s when The Miz showed up with a Skull Crushing Finale on the floor. Melo was down on the ground selling the attack while WWE officials made Miz back away.

Melo Don’t Miz lasted as a tag team for a few months, got some big wins along the way, and had some fun moments. However, it always felt like the point was for Miz to turn on Melo so that Melo could become a babyface wrestler, and now he appears to be on that path.

On social media, Carmelo Hayes posted a jersey that said “The Miz” on it. When Hayes was in NXT, that’s what he did after he would beat an opponent, so it should set up a Hayes-Miz match soon.

As for The Miz, he has had many alliances in WWE that didn’t last and usually ended up with Miz attacking the other person, so it’s more of the same for him.
