Major WWE Star Eyeing Backstage Role
A top WWE star is looking to life after they hang up their boots.
Seth Rollins is a five-time WWE World Champion, has won just about every major honor there is to win, and completed the most famous Money In The Bank cash-in in history. He’s also expected to be heavily involved at the top of the card at WrestleMania 41.
But when all is said and done, what comes next?
During an interview with Bloomberg’s Kim Bhasin, Rollins was asked about his plans for when he eventually retires from life in the ring, and he revealed he has no plans to leave the industry.
I think my long-term future is probably still in the industry, in WWE, in some capacity backstage. I think someone’s gonna have to run that place eventually, you know, after the current regime has decided that they’re done with it so, I like to fancy myself as someone who might be interested in that and so, I wanna learn kind of that side of things and that’s my first love…
I do think long-term, we’re probably looking at Seth Rollins in WWE for a long time.
Rollins added that he’s now seeing wrestling from a different angle and that’s something he wants to focus on and try and use in the future. However, he remains committed to getting the most out of his in-ring career before looking too far into the future.
I mean, it’s still a ways off obviously (Rollins responded when asked if he’s spoken to WWE about his interest in working in management). I mean, I’m closer to the end of my career than beginning but, the end ain’t here yet so I’m kind of in my prime right now.
I’m 38 years old. My mental and my physical are kind of locked in right now where my physical hasn’t declined too much and my mental side is really on the rise as I’m starting to see the industry from a different angle so, that part I’m really focused on.
I think we’re in the early stages of conversations about what it might look like for me in the future in an executive or in a creative role or whatever that may be. But, again, that’s in its infancy. That’s like a, ‘Hey, maybe what would you think down the road?’ So, right now, I’m focused on what I’m doing in the ring and helping out there as best I can.
WWE Hall Of Famer Lands SmackDown Role
WWE management and production are currently littered with former wrestlers with Triple H heading up the main roster, while Shawn Michaels handles NXT. This is without mentioning the whole host of former stars such as Shane Helms, William Regal, Matt Bloom, and more who work behind the scenes.
Following that trend, it was reported on February 15, that Road Dogg is the new Co-Lead Writer of SmackDown joining John Swikata.
After all but ending his in-ring career, the veteran returned to his role as a producer before becoming a writer on SmackDown in 2017. He went on to become one of the show’s head writers before stepping down in 2019, although he continued to work for the company.
Road Dogg was eventually released in January 2022, but by August he was back, replacing Jeff Jarrett as Senior Vice President of Live Events.
