WWE has locked in another of its biggest stars.

Although he was a long way from a stereotypical WWE Superstar when he joined the company in 2019, Gunther has taken it by storm.

After dominating in NXT UK, the former Walter, spent a relatively short spell in NXT stateside before arriving on the main roster in style. He quickly captured the Intercontinental Title and held it for a record 666. This was followed by success in the King of the Ring tournament, and a win over Damian Priest to claim the World Heavyweight Championship.

Throughout 2024, WWE signed a raft of its biggest names to bumper new contracts, and Gunther has now revealed that he also penned a new deal.

Gunther Confirms New WWE Deal

In a new interview with Ariel Helwani, Gunther confirmed he signed a new contract in late 2024 which included a tour bus and his own locker room. When asked if he’d looked at any other options, the World Heavyweight Champion said it hadn’t crossed his mind.

“No. I’m set where I am. Nothing else is really… no. How could I?

I think I saw the statistic recently, since I signed in 2019 I’ve been champion 85% or 90% of the time, or something like that. So obviously they (WWE) always saw me in a certain way and gave me that trust. I enjoy that.

Even on a smaller scale in regular jobs before – when I could step up and take on responsibility and earn the trust of someone, I can fulfill that and I can make it work, those are the moments that make me proud and drive me.”

During the same interview, Gunther suggested that Triple H had “saved professional wrestling” by creating new opportunities, especially those in Europe. He explained that earlier in his career there was a mystery about getting to WWE, but Triple H changed how the company views wrestlers outside of the company.
