Major Update On The Rock Potentially Competing In WrestleMania Match

A new report suggests what could be in The Rock’s future regarding WWE.

The last time Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson competed in a WWE match was in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Saturday in 2024. In that match, Rock teamed up with Roman Reigns to beat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a match that saw Rock pin Rhodes. One night later, Rhodes became WWE Champion for the first time.

In 2025, The Rock played a major role at the Elimination Chamber PLE on March 1 when John Cena turned heel on Rhodes, and Rock assisted Cena and rapper Travis Scott in beating up Rhodes.

Even though many people expected The Rock to be involved at WrestleMania 41, he never appeared on WWE programming again in 2025. In fact, he barely even mentioned the company on social media for most of 2025.

In September 2025, WWE announced that Saudi Arabia would host a two-night WrestleMania 43 event in April 2027. While Saudi Arabia has hosted many WWE PLEs over the last decade, this will be their WrestleMania.

Following the announcement, there were numerous reports that the hosts were willing to pay whatever it took to get The Rock in a match on the show, and there are reportedly negotiations ot make it happen. At the time, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter wrote that Rock’s participation would have a significant impact on the show.

“The impression is that the final payment number for the show will be affected by whether or not they get The Rock in the main event. The idea is that the individual payoff for Johnson would be multiple times that of any pro wrestler for any event in history.”

The Rock Is Unlikely To Be Involved In WrestleMania 41 Match

WrestleMania 41 will take place on April 19 & 20 in Las Vegas for the second year in a row.

Every year leading up to WrestleMania, the 52-year-old Rock is rumored for some role at WrestleMania. However, Andrew Baydala wrote on X that Rock isn’t expected to be part of the WrestleMania 41 festivities in Vegas.

“Before these “rumors” get wild again- The Rock is NOT wrestling at this year’s #WrestleMania. The “big offer” under discussion is for next year’s Mania 43 in Saudi Arabia, and there appears to be hesitation about proceeding, given that The Rock knows it would most likely be his last match.”

Away from the WWE world, The Rock is busy making movies and is nominated for a Golden Globe award for the first time for his role in “The Smashing Movie.” Rock may get an Oscar nomination for the role as well, which would be massive for his career.

Regarding the WrestleMania 43 match in 2027, there is obviously a lot of time to go until that show takes place, and there will likely be a lot more info about that over the next year.
