Major Free Agent Back In Tony Khan’s Ring After 8 Months
One big-name free agent has made their return to Tony Khan’s ring for the first time in eight months as speculation about their future grows.
Michael Oku launched himself onto the radars of many fans in February 2024 when he wrestled Will Ospreay in the star’s last match before joining AEW. However, Oku had been impressing on the independent scene for several years and even made a cameo at All In 2023.
On August 11 2024, the rising star was back in action with RevPro where he challenged MJF for the AEW American Championship. Although he was unsuccessful, Oku again impressed while proving he could go toe-to-toe with one of the best in the world.
Oku’s valet Amira ended up involved in that action as MJF threatened to nail her with the Tiger Driver before Will Ospreay made a shock appearance to make the save. Oku then had one match in AEW when the company debuted in Cardiff, Wales as he faced Serpentico in a match only for the live crowd.
Michael Oku Back In Tony Khan’s Ring
Michael Oku was not offered a contract by AEW at that time but it seems he’s remained under Tony Khan’s radar. AEW Spring BreakThru saw a shock debut take place with two Ring of Honor matches also taped in front of the Boston crowd.
Red Velvet successfully defended her ROH Women’s TV Title against La Catalina in one and in the other Michael Oku was defeated by Nick Wayne thanks to interference from Kip Sabian.
AEW will return to the UK later in 2025, where Oku is based, and it remains to be seen if Tony Khan has further plans to work with the star then.
