Major Update On When Brock Lesnar May Retire From WWE
The end of Brock Lesnar’s WWE career could be coming sooner than some people may think.
John Cena will retire as a WWE superstar on December 13th at Saturday Night’s Main Event when he faces Gunther for the first and last time. Win or lose, Cena has said that’s it.
The 2026 edition of WWE SummerSlam will take place on August 1st and 2nd at US Bank Stadium. While Cena spoke about his own retirement, he also mentioned that one of his biggest rivals, Brock Lesnar, could retire at SummerSlam in Minnesota.
“He’s a beast. It’s his first time back. I’ve been in this seat before. It’s like I’m always in the seat when Brock comes back, Rock after Miami, who’s the next guy? SummerSlam with Roman, here he comes again.
After he beats Taker for the streak, I’ve sat in this seat before. You have to figure out who gets the shine that night and if, in his return again, only my perspective. This attraction, where we are going to build until he goes into the sunset, which is, I think, in Minnesota? Creatively, it’s very soon. To create a mountain to climb for someone, you have to build the mountain.”
Brock Lesnar is 48 years old, like Cena. He started training for WWE with Cena in OVW 25 years ago and joined the main roster in 2002, a few months before Cena. While Lesnar left WWE in 2004 and missed eight years before coming back in 2012, Lesnar has been a part of WWE for most of the last 13 years.
It’s possible that Lesnar is thinking about retiring, but he’s a man who rarely does interviews, so it’s unknown what is on his mind.
WWE Could Be Planning For Brock Lesnar’s Retirement In 2026
After being away from WWE for two years, Brock Lesnar returned to beat John Cena soundly at Wrestlepalooza in September. Lesnar was also part of Paul Heyman’s WarGames team that got a big win at Survivor Series. Lesnar is 2-0 this year and likely won’t have another match in 2025.
As for 2026, Lesnar is among the big names who could retire.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote about Lesnar, as well as AJ Styles (who has said he will be retiring in 2026) and Chris Jericho, who is likely returning to WWE in early 2026.
“There is a story going around that Lesnar will retire at SummerSlam 2026. I can’t confirm that date, but did at least a month hear that the working plans for 2026 would be the WWE retirement runs for Lesnar, (AJ) Styles and potentially (Chris) Jericho if he signs.
I didn’t get the impression it was locked in except for Styles, who has made it clear it will be in 2026 but not when. But the Lesnar name has been talked about, which is probably where the story came from.”
Regarding a possible WrestleMania 42 opponent, Gunther’s name has been mentioned as somebody who could face Brock Lesnar, but nothing is confirmed.
