Major AEW Star Lays Down Goldberg Challenge

Goldberg WWE

An unlikely challenger could tempt Goldberg back to the ring.

At Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, Goldberg wrestled for what was promoted as the final time. In the special’s headline bout, the WCW legend took on Gunther but was ultimately defeated by the World Heavyweight Champion.

However, since then, the veteran has admitted he was disappointed by how his retirement run played out, even suggesting that WWE didn’t put in enough effort.

When pressed on his plans for the future, Goldberg said that although he’s retired “in principle,” he can’t promise that he won’t wrestle again.

Could Goldberg Land In AEW?

During an interview on Busted Open Radio, MJF discussed Goldberg’s retirement and his subsequent comments about the moment falling short of his own lofty expectations. In typical MJF fashion, the former AEW World Champion said that if his former idol ever wants a proper farewell, he’ll be happy to oblige.

“Let me stop you right there,” MJF began. “Have you seen me on Rosie O’Donnell as a child? (Yes.) Do you remember the two names of my favorite pro wrestlers when I was a kid that I stated when I was a very young, small, five-year-old boy? (Was it The Rock and Goldberg?) It was.

If Goldberg wants some, I’m right here, but I will embarrass him. I will demolish him. I will snap, crack, and pop every single tendon, ligament, and bone in his stupid, old, musty body. You know who’s next? Nobody. I’d be last. Capiche?

So if he wants a proper send-off, he should be facing a generational talent. I’m right here if he’s interested. But A, I’m going to need to be paid a lot of money if you want to see that match. And B, I would imagine he doesn’t come cheap either. So a lot of stars have to align for that to happen.”

Back in July 2024, Goldberg praised MJF and said he was proud of the AEW star for becoming a household name on his own terms.
