Major AEW Star Confirms They’re Not Under Contract

Tony Khan AEW

One of AEW’s top stars is technically a free agent.

At All In Bryan Danielson will wrestle what could turn out to be the final match of his career. The star has promised that if he’s unable to beat Swerve Strickland and claim the World Championship in the main event he’ll retire.

Since the match was made Danielson has repeatedly discussed his injury struggles, admitting he needs neck surgery before the end of the year.

Interestingly, in an interview in July, Bryan Danielson revealed his contract expired on August 1st, only adding to the speculation about what might come next. While some might have expected the star to sign a new deal to see him into retirement and a backstage role, it seems that hasn’t been the case.

During a new interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, the star confirmed he’s currently working without a contract.

“I have no contract right now. I’m just not under contract, which is crazy.”

When asked if anyone had reached out to him given the current wrestling climate, Danielson said it had all gone very quiet.

“Not a single person. [laughs] When asked whether it surprised him Danielson added, “No, but people who really know me know that I don’t look at my phone very much.”

Although Danielson did reveal he has just under 4000 unread messages on his phone so there’s a chance someone reached out and he hasn’t seen it.

Bryan Danielson “At Peace” With Impending AEW Retirement

Speaking elsewhere, Bryan Danielson admitted he’s now at peace with the idea of retirement, reiterating that he wasn’t ready to walk away when forced to quit through injury in 2016.

The American Dragon explained that his life is very different now, and he’s got other priorities outside of wrestling. He went on to say that whenever the end comes he’s looking forward to spending more time with his young family.
