“Macho Man” Randy Savage Biopic In Development
An exciting new Randy Savage project is on the way.
As reported by Deadline, production company Artists for Artists is working on a Randy Savage biopic. The company, operated by Kenan Thompson and Johnny Ryan Jr., has confirmed that the project will be titled “Macho.”
Both men are life-long fans of the wrestling legend, with Thompson briefly working with Savage on a Nickelodeon promo in 1999.
The project will be born out of a script completed by Savage’s late brother, Lanny Poffo, who passed away in February 2023, and Eric Shapiro.
In a statement issued to Deadline, Ryan Jr. expressed his excitement at getting the opportunity to profile the legend.
“Macho Man Randy Savage was the greatest showman of all time and the OG bad boy of entertainment. His outfits were as electric as his personality, and he’s so much more than an artist; he’s an icon. Lanny and Eric did a great job capturing this story and the crazy 80s wrestling era that turnt wrestling figures into lifelong pop culture icons.”
Thompson added that Savage is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
“Beyond excited for this one!! Macho Man is hands down one of the greatest of all time and can’t wait to bring his story to the screen!!!”
Paul Coy Allen of Midas Entertainment Group, which is also involved in production, said the project represented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“Some stories come once in a lifetime, not just to be told, but to ignite. MACHO is one of those rare stories that electrifies across generations. We are honored to partner up with AFA and Range Media to share Randy’s story with the world.”
Randy Savage Remebered As A Legend
Randy Savage began his career in 1973 and worked for several promotions across the old territory system, including his father’s outlaw International Championship Wrestling outfit.
After enjoying a run of success alongisde his brother, Savage went on to make himself a legend with WWE after joining the company in 1985. The outlandish star featured in legendary storylines and matches with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Ricky Steamboat, and many more.
By 1993, the star was used primarily as a commentator, and that continued into 1994 much to his annoyance. This eventually saw Randy Savage leave the company and sign with WCW in December 1994.
Savage was a regular presence for WCW until making his final appearance in 2000. After the company folded, he briefly appeared for TNA in 2004.
The former World Champion ultimately retired that year and remained lawgely away from the industry until his death in May 2011 at the age of 58. Savage was finally inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
Back in June, Charlotte Flair recalled a bizarre-yet-brilliant story where she took Randy Savage to her school’s show and tell. She said that there was a wrestling show in town at the time, so her father Ric decided to would be fun to pass by the kindergarten glass.
