Lucha Brothers Future Remains Up In The Air Between AEW & WWE

Lucha Brothers AEW

The Lucha Brothers are interested in jumping to WWE, but their AEW contract status may be preventing that.

For the past five years, The Lucha Brothers duo of Penta & Rey Fenix have had a lot of success in All Elite Wrestling. They are former AEW Tag Team Champions and Trios Tag Team Champions who are known for having great matches.

Recently, it was reported that Rey Fenix and Penta had either signed with WWE or that an announcement was imminent. That turned out to be false.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer offered more insight by noting that the Lucha Brothers are still signed to AEW and unable to go to WWE yet.

Regarding the update on Penta & Fenix, this is the current situation. They have not signed with WWE because they are still under AEW contract so all those stories are false. Obviously Penta is going when his deal is up which is within the next two months. Officially the story that has to be said is that he has not negotiated with WWE but will do so when his AEW deal expires.

As far as Fenix goes, right now AEW is tacking on injury time which is nearly but not quite one year. (Tony) Khan made both significant offers to stay but they wouldn’t sign a new deal.

More Details On AEW Preventing Lucha Brothers From Going To WWE

It has been reported by Fightful Select that while Penta has said that the brothers want to go to WWE’s main roster, it’s not going to happen any time soon.

The report adds that AEW offered the Lucha Brothers a contract this summer, but the brothers turned it down. The plan was to put the AEW Trios Tag Team Titles on the Lucha Brothers and Pac (aka Death Triangle) at AEW All In.

Fightful added that “sources within WWE had been made aware as of last week that Fenix wouldn’t be imminently joining the company. Fenix missed substantial time during his AEW with over six months absent in late 2023 into 2024, three months from January 2022 to April 2022 and three months in 2021 as well.

While it may be frustrating to fans who want to see Penta & Fenix in a WWE ring, the practice of adding injury time has been common within AEW, WWE, and TNA for many years.
